The winter holidays are special times to share with family, friends, and everyone else that matters to us. That means some sort of travel is involved, and for most, that means long distance traveling to see as many of our loved ones as possible. But there comes an inherent stress that is tethered with holiday travel. In keeping with the spirit of the season, we think about others, and are all so locked into our goals to make time to be with our loved ones. However, sometimes we forget to take care of ourselves. One way to keep from stretching ourselves too thin is to simply remember to stay hydrated as we move from one airport or train station to get from one holiday gathering to another.

Here’s a couple other things to keep in mind as consider your travel during this holiday season:

Be conscious of your alcohol consumption

If you’re an adult who enjoys an adult beverage, why wouldn’t you want to indulge yourself as you spend quality time with your closest family and friends? But as we all know, consumption of high levels of alcohol without water can quickly lead to dehydration. So keep yourself upright by consuming food and drinks!

You need hydrating drinks AND food

Besides water and electrolyte packed drinks like Vitalyte, water-rich foods that can help you stay hydrated throughout your travel. Eating fruits and vegetables like berries, watermelon, oranges, lettuce, bell peppers and zucchini will boost your energy and immunity. The changing of the seasons coincides with the cold and flu season, too, don’t ya know. On the other hand, consuming too many sugary drinks and salty foods can bring on dehydration and other health risks. For instance, it can cause inflammation in your digestive system by way of preventing the proper absorption of nutrients. Furthermore, this can keep the immune system from working correctly, and can increase the risk of diabetes.

Instant hydration

Having a reusable water bottle within arm’s reach while traveling is one of the best investments one can make. Depending on the bottle, it can control the temperature of your drink, and are perfect containers to enjoy hydrating drink mixtures such Vitalyte. A reusable bottle can make your traveling experience much easier and help prevent dehydration.

Just because the weather turns a bit colder as the winter holidays approach doesn’t mean that the risks of dehydration become any less. The risks of dehydration is something to be mindful of during all 12-months out of the year.
