Brand Ambassador Update with Evan Healey

Vitalyte Brand Ambassadors are out there again in force. Colorado’s own Evan Healey hasn’t met a challenge he doesn’t like. The last week of June he completed a 500 mile bike tour of southwestern Colorado that topped out 12,000 feet. Luckily for Evan he had Vitalyte in his bottles throughout the ride to keep his energy levels steady and electrolytes replenished. Not one to rest on his laurels, this endurance athlete is now focusing on his final preparations for his third Ironman triathlon on July 30th. As he prepares for this 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike and 26.2 mile run, Evan uses Tri Phase pre workout formula for triathlons. Packed with electrolytes for mineral replenishment, Palatinose for a steady burning carbohydrate source and b vitamins for mental acuity and energy, this specially formulated fuel keeps all Vitalyte athletes going at their best.

  • Brand Ambassador Update: Michael Drackert at the Fat Tire Off Road Duathlon

Vitalyte's Brand Ambassador Michael Drackert at the Fat Tire Off Road Duathlon

Vitalyte's Brand Ambassador Michael Drackert finished first overall at the Fat Tire Off Road Duathlon in Lawrence, Kansas. The race was a fast two mile trail run followed by a ten mile mountain bike. For our super star multi sport athlete these were considered "short distances, but full gas speed the whole time!" Michael fueled for his tough off road event with Vitalyte's Tri Phase pre workout energy drink for endurance athletes. The long burning carbohydrate source in Tri Phase gave Michael enough energy to power him through fifty four minutes of twists and turns on the course. As our athlete representative put it himself, it was "crucial to be topped up before" energy wise for such an intense event. "Tri Phase drink prior to the start gave me all the energy I needed to go for the win!"

  • Vitalyte Brand Ambassadors Have Been Hitting the Pavement, Trails and Water

    Update on Vitalyte Brand Ambassadors

Once again Vitalyte Brand ambassadors have been hitting the pavement, trails and water with a vengeance.

    Maia Detmer Ultra Distance Runner

maia detmerMarch was a busy month for Maia Detmer as our ultra distance runner extraordinaire placed 20th overall and was the 5th female finisher at the Monument Valley 50 Miler in Utah. With a finish time of 10 hours and 16 minutes she didn't have a lot of time to dilly dally but she was able to stop and pose for a photo opp along the scenic course. She was also able to make sure she refueled with her favorite Vitalyte products to keep her hydrated and energized. It starts to get hot this time of year so our electrolyte formula for ultra-distance runners is a must if you plan on testing your body to the limit like Maia does.

    Triathlete and Duathlete Michael Drackert

michael drackert runningAs for triathlete and duathlete Michael Drackert, he is two for two as he starts this race season. Taking home first place in both of his recent duathlons, the Missouri resident is ready as he prepares for upcoming XTerra races. Our superstar multi-sporter was able to "hit the run hard and power through the bike" thanks to Tri Phase Pre Workout Endurance Formula, the perfect endurance drink for triathletes.

San Diegan Jennifer Potter marked another endurance event off her checklist when she completed the Superseal Triathlon. This was her first Olympic distance triathlon and this dynamic athlete has a lot to be proud of. Vital electrolytes are lost during training and racing so Jennifer replaces them with grape flavored Vitalyte. This electrolyte drink for triathletes has the perfect ratio of electrolytes to keep our brand enthusiasts hydrated for race day.

Congratulations to all of our ambassadors and keep up the great work! We are cheering for you and look forward to your next adventures. Stay hydrated!

  • Brand Ambassador Michael Drackert Getting Ready for Groundhog 10K

Updates on Brand Ambassador Michael Drackert

I received an unexpected free race entry to the Goundhog 10K. The whole route is located in underground storage caverns. While the outside temperature was below freezing, it was a warm 65 F in the caverns. I raced well on minimal training as I'm coming out of an off season. Not my fastest 10K, but I finished in the top 20 out of +1,000 people.

brand ambassador Michael Drackert runningSpent a week in Hawaii for vacation. I got in touch with the Hawaiian Ultra Running Team for some trail running recommendations. Needless to say, the trails did not let me down. It was absolutely beautiful. I used the Tri-Phase endurance fuel pre runs and one packet of the Electrolyte Replacement for a couple long runs, including a tough 15 miler with close to 4,000 feet elevation gain.

Training is ramping up with about 10 hours per week spread across the bike, run, and swim plus weight training. I'm frequently using the Complete Recovery for the amino acids as well as the chia bars. The rest of February includes a lot of base volume.

    Upcoming Events

    • March I'm racing the Tinman Biathlon... 10K run followed by 20 mile bike.
    • April I'm racing MaxTrax Duathlon (1.5 mi run, 15 mi bike, 3 mi run) and the GC Off-Road Duathlon (2mi trail run, 15 mi mountain bike)

  • Brand Ambassador Katarina Marks Completes XTERRA World Championship Race

Katarina MarksKatarina Marks is a passionate athlete and proud Vitalyte brand ambassador who never backs down from an intense challenge, as evidenced by her recent success in the 2015 XTERRA World Championship. For those who don’t know, the XTERRA is one of the world’s most grueling off-road triathlon events, which includes a 1.5-kilometer (1-mile) swim, a 32-kilometer (20-mile) mountain bike, and a 10.5-kilometer (6.5 mile) trail run. Based in breathtaking Maui, Hawaii, the event has been described as “a tropical roller-coaster ride through pineapple fields and forests.”

This year, Katarina was one of about 800 athletes from all over the world to take part in the event, and she truly left her mark. Not only did she finish (which is an incredible feat in itself), but she was the 6th fastest participant in the world for her age group, and the 2nd fastest American. According to Katarina:

This was the toughest race I have ever done. They test your mental, physical, and emotional limits and push you to reach out of your comfort zone to be a better you! First time swimming in the ocean, and I swam 4 minutes faster than Nationals. The bike course was brutal! 3,500 ft of elevation gain in 20 miles and yet I still had a faster bike pace split than nationals! The run was intense and ran faster than nationals and it was further!

Katarina also had plenty of people to thank for her remarkable success:

A huge thank you to everyone who has supported me and helped me get to this point (especially my wonderful husband)! Thank you to my wonderful sponsors: Osmo Hydration, Durango Running Company, Pagosa Mountain Sports, Vitalyte, Raw Revolution, Timex Factory Team, Purely Elizabeth, Veggie Go's, MD Sox, Visigo Sport, Teaologists, & Oiselle Volee team! And of course to God, for blessing me with these abilities and to be able to glorify Him with it! Multiple times during the bike and run I kept repeating some Scripture to keep pressing on -- especially Hebrews 12:2: “Let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.”

Katarina’s success is a testament to her tireless commitment to excellence, and we expect to see even more great milestones from her in the future. We feel honored that Vitalyte was able to play a role in her achievement, and it inspires us to see game-changing athletes maintaining peak performance with help from this truly one-of-a-kind blend. According to Katarina, “In order to prepare for my race this morning, I took Vitalyte Pre-Workout before the start of the swim, stayed up on my electrolytes during & after the race, and took Vitalyte complete recovery after the race, so that I can insure to recover quickly!”

  • Brand Ambassador Luciano Ros Completes Triathlon for Huntington's Disease

Brand Ambassador Luciano RosWhen it comes to athletic performance, Luciano Ros is a machine who will not be stopped. As a passionate sports lover who has competed in several triathlons, he truly is an inspiration to us all. His most recent achievement was his completion of the 24th annual Huntington’s Disease Triathlon, which took place on July 26th, 2015, in Miami, Florida. All proceeds are being allocated toward research to find a cure for Huntington’s Disease, a degenerative brain disorder which affects roughly 30,000 Americans. Vitalyte is extremely proud to have Luciano Ros as a brand ambassador, and we congratulate him on his recent achievement.

The event had two distance options: Sprint and Olympic. The Sprint distance is the shorter option, but Luciano -- being the insatiable athlete that he is -- opted for the longer Olympic distance. The entire event consisted of a 0.7-mile swim, followed by a 21-mile bike ride, followed by a 6-mile run. Not only did Luciano complete each challenge, but he finished 3rd in his age group, in a total time of 2 hours and 6 minutes.

So what’s his secret? There’s nothing magical about it, and in fact, anyone can achieve this impressive milestone with the right attitude and the right amount of self-discipline. Luciano has only been competing in triathlons for a few short years, and has found the experience to be quite addictive. He trains year-round, and has learned a lot about himself in the process of constantly challenging himself. He firmly believes that with the right training, nutrition and mindset, there are no obstacles your body cannot overcome.

As a Vitalyte brand ambassador, Luciano also relies on Vitalyte sports drinks to keep him hydrated during those long athletic endeavors. Athletes everywhere trust Vitalyte electrolyte drinks because they’re specially formulated with the ideal isotonic exchange rate, releasing important nutrients into the body more quickly and effectively. Additionally, Vitalyte doesn’t contain all of the unhealthy additives found in other sports drink. You simply get the ingredients you need to perform at your absolute best. Explore our wide selection of delicious sports drinks, and see for yourself why Vitalyte is a cut above the rest.

  • Vitalyte Brand Ambassador Jon McIver Competes in Ironman Chattanooga

Vitalyte Brand Ambassador Jon McIverOn Sunday, September 27th, 2015, Tennessee and northern Georgia played host to the second annual Ironman Chattanooga Triathlon. For anyone who has ever taken part -- or considered taking part -- in an Ironman competition, you know that there’s nothing more grueling. Last month’s event began with a 2.4-mile swim across the Tennessee River, followed by a 116-mile bike ride across North Georgia, followed by a complete 26.2-mile marathon. The average time to complete the competition is 16 to 18 hours, but our Vitalyte brand ambassador Jon McIver was more than up to the challenge.

McIver was one of 2,500 participants to brave the event, and is proud to have made it all the way to finish line. His success was the culmination of a months-long, rigorous training schedule, coupled with a relentless can-do spirit. He notes, however, that Vitalyte was enormously helpful throughout the course of his journey, keeping him hydrated throughout every stage of the process. According to McIver:

I trained for the better part of a year with Vitalyte as my electrolyte replacement of choice.  As I began to prepare for Ironman Chattanooga, I made the decision early on that I would prepare for anything, but stick with Vitalyte on the bike and run as much as possible. I was able to figure out a formula to keep my aero bottle filled with Vitalyte on the bike. I calculated out a concentrated formula to fill one bottle with, and at each aid station would squeeze a set amount into my aero bottle and then top off with water. I was able to control my fluid intake, avoid bloating, and stay hydrated easily using Vitalyte.

Things were much easier on the run. I started with a full bottle plus a one-serving stick in my run bottle. I refilled again at special needs. As I made my way around the merciless hills on the two loops of the run course, the least of my worries was hydration. Vitalyte kept me going on my first Ironman!

Congratulations to Jon McIver, and best of luck on your next big adventure!

  • An Unusual Affair- High Stakes Boston

An Unusual Affair- High Stakes BostonRowing is a very traditional sport. Which other sport has funky colored blazers for clubs? This being said, for Olympic racing, there is only one distance, 2000m. The High Stakes Boston race looked to change things up a bit by making a unique, spectator friendly race.
I was approached with the concept of the High Stakes Boston race by a former teammate, author and U.S. National Team Coxswain, Jack Carlson. The format was a multi-boat, mixed gender 500m relay race. The catch is that you go 250m and make a turn around a gigantic buoy and race as fast as you can back to the starting line so the next boat on your team can go. There has never been anything like it!
I looked through my Rolodex of rowers and put together a team with two Olympians(one gold medalist), five national team member, and other Olympic hopefuls. It was one of the few opportunities to race with my girlfriend, so we decided to row the double scull together (one friend referred to this combination as "The Divorcer"). I am happy to report that she did not break up with me afterwards.
My team won our heat in the fastest time of the day. The racing itself was so exciting because it is such a short distance, making the margins smaller than usual. The key is to keep calm, despite wanting to go full out, especially on the stake turns. I think my Tri-Phase Endurance helped me get psyched up, but still in control.
Our semi was against a bunch of U-23 National Team all stars. Half of the team had world championship medals from this summer, so we didn't know what to expect. From moment one, we were able to eek out larger and larger margins as the boats went on. With the semi tucked away we had to recover before the final, which would take place in thirty minutes time. I took my Complete Recovery and watched the other semi go down.
The final was against a very similar "Rent-a-Mob" crew from SoCal Scullers. It was the closest race of the day, but untimely we were on the wrong side of a half a boat-length margin.
It was an amazing weekend full of fast racing and old friends. Next on my plate is logging a whole bunch of Kilometers to get ready for Fall distance racing!
